Will I get credit for a CE course I took in a previous licensing period?

  • Ans: You should not repeat any course already reported for CE credit. Beginning with licenses renewing on or after February 1, 2009 you will no longer be able to renew your license if reporting a course that was completed in an earlier licensing period. The Department is in the process of creating a page on our website where you will be able to view your CE course completion history. Notification will be provided when this service is available.

Responsibilities of Monitor:

  • Verification of Identity: Monitors must confirm the identity of the examinee by inspecting the examinee’s current, valid and government-issued photo identification (driver’s license, state-issued identification card or military identification). Other conforming identification may also be requested at the option of the monitor. Monitors must not permit stand-ins to complete an examination on behalf of another licensee.
  • Exam: Monitors shall observe the entire examination process to ensure the closed book examination is completed without any outside assistance. Monitors themselves may not answer exam questions or offer material assistance to examinees.
    • Self-study course exams are closed books exams. No written or printed material, notes, textbooks, or listening, recording, photographic or electronic devices, which would provide assistance to the exam taker, may be used.
  • Monitor’s Affidavit: We have provided an online affidavit. The parties involved must signify their understanding of the state's requirements prior to accessing the exam.

We are required to notify the New York Department of Insurance within 20 days of the agent’s completion.
