North Dakota Requirements:

North Dakota resident insurance producers licensed for life and annuities, accident and health, casualty, property, personal lines, and crop hail or any combination of these lines of authority must complete at least 24 credit hours of approved continuing education per biennial compliance period based on your expiration date. Three of the 24 hours must be in ethics.

Insurance producers licensed for only credit, surety, travel/baggage, title, bail bonds, legal expense, or any combination of these lines are not required to complete continuing education; however, the license must still be renewed every two years.

ANNUITY SUITABILITY TRAINING:

26.1-34.2-03.1. Producer training.  A producer may not solicit the sale of an annuity product unless the producer has adequate knowledge of the product to recommend the annuity, and the producer is in compliance with the insurer's standards for product training. A producer may rely on insurer-provided product-specific training standards and materials to comply with this subsection. 

A producer who engages in the sale of annuity products shall complete a one-time, four-hour training course.  

A producer who has completed an annuity training course approved by the insurance department before January 1, 2022, within six months after such date, shall complete either:  

(1) A new four-credit training course approved by the insurance department after January 1, 2022; or  

(2) An additional one-time, one-credit training course approved by the insurance department and provided by an insurance department-approved education provider on appropriate sales practices, replacement, and disclosure requirements under this chapter. 

 Providers of annuity training shall issue certificates of completion.  

The satisfaction of the training requirements of another state which are substantially similar to the provisions of this subsection are deemed to satisfy the training requirements of this subsection in this state. The satisfaction of the components of the training requirements of a course with components substantially similar to the provisions of this subsection is deemed to satisfy the training requirements of this subsection in this state.  

PARTNERSHIP LONG-TERM CARE:  An insurer providing LTC insurance shall ensure that a producer will not sell, solicit, or negotiate a LTC insurance policy that will constitute a Partnership policy unless the individual is licensed as an insurance producer for the accident & health line of authority and has completed an initial training of 8-hours and ongoing training courses every 24 months thereafter.  The initial training shall be no less than eight hours and the ongoing training shall be no less than four hours.  If a producer does not complete ongoing training of 4 hours every 24 months, the producer must retake the initial training course of no less than 8 hours.

AFFIDAVIT: North Dakota requires that you complete your coursework. There is an online affidavit form that you must attest to this fact. There is nothing additional that needs to be faxed.

COURSE REPEATS: Courses cannot be repeated within the same reporting period. Correspondence and Internet courses have the same course numbers.

CARRY-OVER HOURS: Up to 12 hours of coursework over the minimum requirement taken in the last 12 months of your reporting period may be credited to the next 12 months. Ethics hours may be carried forward as regular hours; however, they cannot be carried forward as ethics hours.

TESTING: You have five chances to pass your test. If you fail all five times, the system will lock you out and you will have to complete a different course.
