Course Overview
This
course provides a comprehensive examination of ethical responsibilities for
property and casualty insurance brokers in Canada, with a primary focus on
Ontario’s Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) Code of Conduct and
Saskatchewan’s Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority (FCAA) framework. It
also incorporates standards and enforcement practices from Alberta’s Alberta
Insurance Council (AIC) and Manitoba’s Insurance Council of Manitoba (ICM),
reflecting the nationally harmonized principles of the Fair Treatment of
Customers (FTC) guidance issued by CCIR and CISRO. Insurance
professionals will explore the ethical foundations of brokerage practice,
including integrity, competence, quality of service, candor, confidentiality,
conflict management, transparency, claims advocacy, and professional
courtesy. Case studies drawn from disciplinary precedents illustrate how
these principles apply in real-world scenarios. Practical tools, including
disclosure templates, needs assessment checklists, renewal protocols, and
claims support logs, are provided to help brokers translate ethical
obligations into daily practice. By the end of this
course, brokers will understand how to embed fairness and transparency into
their operations, protect clients through proactive ethical conduct, and
